What is Joomla?
‘Joomla’ comes from the Swahili word ‘Jumla’ which means ‘all together’. It is an open source content management system (CMS) popular in the web development world. It is built on a PHP/MySQL framework and includes features like banners, polls, RSS, login module, and endless ways to customize and update your website.
Joomla is the most often used open source platform for CMS web development in the world. It is commonly believed that WordPress is best for blogging, and Joomla is best for content management and extensions/applications.
Most of the sites that I’ve developed for clients have been created on a Joomla! backend for a number of reasons, mostly that the platform is versatile, and customizing the designs is easy.
People talk about
security issues with open source develpment though. Yes they do, and if you’re using the wrong web developer your Joomla site could be vulnerable. Why? Because there are a number of ‘out of the box’ settings on any open source platform that must be changed in order to secure your site. Hackers know the default settings to scan the net for. Your Box 9 Design website will not have any of those defaults. They are all customized to highly secure new settings to keep you out of the line of fire!
