The big news in web design trends for 2011 is HTML5 . This development is easily dominating news about web design this year for a number of reasons. What is HTML5? HTML has been a pretty static computer language for a long time. HTML5 is the first major leap for the language since HTML4 in 1997…that’s 14 years as of this posting! To say that much has changed on the World Wide Web in the past 14 years is a monumental understatement. Surfers today demand rich multimedia content from even the most basic business card website. HTML5 allows developers to incorporate all of this multi media content in websites without third party applications like Flash. The Apple Factor: Apple makes the vast majority of it’s money from devices. Actual physical products, rather than software. With the release of the iPhone and then the iPad, Apple has dominated the smartphone and tablet markets. They have sold more than 30 million iPads so far, and more than 20 million iPhones in the last 3 months alone. Don’t you wish you bought Apple stock just 10 years back when everyone predicted the end of the company because they could only manage to capture 3-4% of the pc market? DAM! So, as you probably know, Apple does not support flash on their devices. In fact, they do not support any application that is itself a development platform. Flash will NEVER be allowed on Apple’s devices. Windows users cry foul because they are used to using and developing with Flash. Mac users have never been bothered by malware and viruses. EVER.
